About the Chamber

Originally named the East Boston Board of Trade prior to the 1960’s, the East Boston Chamber of Commerce has been representing the East Boston community proudly for over 40 years.

A group of astute local business leaders once recognized a need to band together for the common purpose of leading and stimulating economic development in East Boston. It was believed that by creating an association charged with helping local business thrive, the entire community would profit as a result: the success of local businesses would trickle down to community organizations and families, improving overall quality of life in East Boston. The Chamber’s founding fathers were correct in their presumptions. Today, the Chamber’s Board of Directors, a volunteer assemblage of fifteen respected local business leaders, continues onward with those same goals in mind.

The East Boston Chamber, incorporated in 1984, is a non-profit business organization, recognized under section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Chamber currently represents more than 250 local businesses, the majority of which are in East Boston; however, we also have members from Boston proper, Chelsea, Dorchester, Everett, Revere, South Boston, Winthrop, and as far away as Beverly and Holbrook. Our Chamber membership spans the industry spectrum – from attorneys and auto repair to website design and veterinarians.

The Chamber strives each day to strengthen its influence and expand its offerings, in order to serve the interests of its members, and the East Boston business community as a whole. We are a non-profit organization, but we are not a charity! We are a marketing tool. We are a resource for your business. We are the connection between you, fellow business owners, elected officials, and potential customers.

We have an office located at 175 McLellan Highway that also serves as a meeting space and business resource center for our members: computers with high-speed internet access, printing and copy center, information on health insurance and financing, and more.

It is important to note that the Chamber’s annual revenue is derived only from our annual membership investment fees, events, and advertising/sponsorship opportunities. We are only funded by you, the business owners. Help us to help you – become a member of the East Boston Chamber of Commerce.
